wirtz implement co.

Ames, Iowa
Years of Operation: 1952 - 1958
Wirtz Implement Company was started on October 23, 1950 as a Ford and Dearborn implement dealer. They added the Oliver farm machinery line in September 1952. Allen Motors had previously been the dealer for Oliver farm equipment in Ames. Wirtz Implement constructed the dealership pictured below located on US Highway 69 (South Duff Ave) just north of the river.  The dealership was owned by Kenneth Wirtz. They sold the Oliver complete line and the Ford tractor with Dearborn implements. In 1954, Virg Hapes ran the parts department.  Mechanics included John Kuchenreuther and Everett Smith. Dale Woolsoncroft was a salesman there and eventually bought the business from Wirtz in 1958.
