Years of Operation: 1959 - 1997
In March 1949, Bud Vreeman and his father Dick purchased a building at the north end of Main Street in Ireton to start an implement dealership. Vreeman's Farm Store opened in October 1949 selling Massey-Harris, New Holland and Kewanee equipment lines. In 1952, Bud purchased his father's share of the implement business and changed the name to Siouxland Implement. He also operated Siouxland Propane starting it the next year. In February 1959, a tragic fire destroyed the original implement dealership so a new building was constructed. With the move to a new building at 305 4th Street (which is currently an autobody shop), the Oliver farm equipment product line was added in the fall of 1959 and Massey-Harris was dropped. In 1960, Willard Huitink joined the dealership and became a part owner in 1962 or 1963. Willard and Bud quickly outgrew their building constructed in 1959, so they purchased 10 acres and built a new, modern Stran-Wall building in 1966. This new dealership on Highway 10 south of Ireton was a "state of the art" implement building for Oliver at the time. In 1965 and 1967, Siouxland Implement was awarded the President's Honor Council recognition from Oliver Corporation. Over the years, they also sold New Idea, New Holland, Gehl, and Hesston lines. In April 1985, the dealership added John Deere to their White-New Idea dealership. In 1988, an addition was constructed to support the growing business. Willard retired as manager in 1993. Two years later, Bud purchased Willard's share of the business. In 1997, Bud sold the dealership. Although it changed names and ownership multiple times, the location continued as a John Deere dealership until 2021. Willard passed away in 2015 and Bud in 2021.
